The English language continues to have a very significant role throughout these teaching levels, during which our students are able to successfully complete an international certification with the University of Cambridge. Junior School Programme

FROM 5TH TO 8TH GRADE

The subjects taught in Portuguese follow the national curriculum, as the subjects taught in English follow a programme adapted to meet specific requirements, in view of a more rigorous approach. Accordingly, our English programs, which integrate different levels of study, are developed with the aim of aggregating the National English Curriculum to the University of Cambridge English exams, as it is our aim to certify our students through these exams.

The English language acquires particular relevance along this teaching curriculum, assuming an extensive and rigorous programme, articulating itself organically with the learning embodied in the national curriculum.

Practical real life situations are created so that oral and written communication is highlighted to provide students with the necessary skills for fluent and effective communication. Specific work sessions on English literature are also included as well as preparation for the Cambridge University international certification exams.

Junior Programme Evaluation

In Junior School, internal assessments focus on the learning and skills defined in the National Curriculum according to the specific criteria of each subject. The evaluation criteria of each subject are the responsibility of the subject’s department, according to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education. At the beginning of each school year, they are made known to the entire educational community. It is on the basis of these that the regulation and reorientation of the teaching-learning process and, consequently, the classification of the students’ marks and results is made.

St. Peter’s embodies the purpose of integrating students into the traditions and customs of Anglo-Saxon culture in its ideology. Language Programme

From the 5th to the 9th grade, Junior and Middle school, the teaching method focuses on the four language skills, with equal relevance to the grammar component. Students produce a variety of written assignments and interact in discussions and debates on various themes of the programme. In English language classes the programme is more geared towards taking the Cambridge exams.

Junior School Activities

At the Junior School level, teachers design pedagogical strategies to support learning and inclusion. Individual behaviour profiles inform teaching staff of how to effectively meet children's educational needs during daily activities.

English Literature

English Literature is also seen as a fundamental area of study, not only in the linguistic sense, but also as a means of experiencing Anglo-Saxon culture. For this purpose, students from the 5th to the 9th grades have English Literature classes in their schedule. In these classes, classical and modern literature is read; projects are outlined and discussions are held concerning the various themes of the stories or plays.

Speaking Skills

Over the years, our Junior School students can consolidate at this level their knowledge of the English language, with particular emphasis on speaking skills. These students often carry out projects that encourage them to use multimedia media in order to improve the quality of oral presentations in class.

Cultural Studies
