Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.
In Kindergarten our Main Objectives are:
- To promote an active desire in children to learn and use English;
- To understand, give and follow instructions and to ask/answer questions;
- To encourage children to use their own initiative and help them become more independent thinkers;
- To promote indoor and outdoor activities that allow children to experience the world through hands-on interaction;
- To emphasis oral language development using role-plays, songs, story books and vocabulary games;
- To develop children’s English language skills in a gradual, systematic and integrated way;
- To foster appreciation, interest and curiosity towards the target language and its culture.
Children’s literature Exploring Children’s literature helps students develop emotional intelligence and creativity. It also nurtures growth and development of the student’s personality and social skills, stimulating and expanding their imagination and curiosity.
Reading picture books to children strengthens the bond between child and adult, introducing them to new language and reading strategies that will be used to develop and extend reading skills and cognitive development. It is also beneficial in stretching attention spans, and widening horizons as children learn about the world and develop interest in new subjects. Reading to children also stimulates aesthetic development and creativity through illustrations.
Phonics Exploring the ABC’s will help children recognize sounds that each individual letter makes, developing ability to link sounds to letters. Children will learn letters of the alphabet, understand their linguistic significance and develop their ability to notice, think about and work with the individual sounds in words. Developing children’s capacity to understand the relationships between letters and sounds, will eventually help them to become better readers.
Drama class activities that provide a variety of learning experiences:
Children will be encouraged to express their feelings and imagination in both a verbal and non-verbal manner. Through role-play, dance and mime they will recreate and invent different situations. Taking part in these activities both indoor and outdoor, helps children to develop self-esteem and confidence contributing to their oral, social and emotional skills development. We aim to give children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves in different contexts.
